Al markhiya is Doha’s first private gallery, specialising in contemporary Qatari and Middle Eastern art. Focused on the growth of an indigenous art scene, it has fostered such Qatari talent as Ali Hassan, Faraj Daham, Salman Al Malik and Yousef Ahmed, as well as artists from across the Middle East.
Since opening in 2008, al markhiya and East Wing, its Dubai-based sister gallery, have paired with major art establishments, helping Doha’s Museum of Islamic Art bring the Hajj exhibition to Qatar and supporting Katara in unveiling the first exhibition of acclaimed Palestinian caricaturist Naji al-Ali’s drawings in the Middle East. Other collaborations include Lebanon’s Galerie Janine Rubeiz, Kuwait’s Dar al Funoon, and Qatar’s Mathaf, Museum of Modern Art.
Please note that al markhiya gallery has temporarily relocated to Souq Waqif Art Center as the development and growth of the souq continues.
