Qatar International Boat Show doubles in size

Opening its second edition on November 11, the Qatar International Boat Show doubles in scale this year by extending full stretch across the Mourjan Marina in Lusail. The show, which also visits Dubai every year, intends to promote Qatar as a leading destination for maritime activities, luxury yachts and products with backing from HE the Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani and the Qatar Tourism Authority.

The inaugural show saw 10 boats sold totaling QR 100 million in profit, as well as various boats measuring up to 50 metres exhibited, a hydrodynamic submarine designed by Japanese company Amuza and various water sport shows to keep the boating community entertained. The 2014 edition promises a display of 60 boats from international brands including France’s Prestige Luxury Motor Yachts and Italian company Azimut Yachts. Speaking on this year’s show the Managing Director of partner shipbuilding company Nakilat Damen Shipyards’ Jan Wim Dekker announced plans for boats to be built in Qatar saying, “we are proud to be a part of a project which promotes Qatar’s expanding maritime industry and we are building two yachts and looking at three other opportunities at present for the show.”

Those attending can also expect endurance and speed world record attempts, water sport attractions, a supercar owner’s parade and a lifestyle show.
