A Weekend of Arab Culture

The Serpentine Gallery in London hosted a weekend of Arab culture courtesy of the Qatar Museums Authority this past July. Renowned violinist Wael Abu Bakr regaled the crowd with an evening performance. Tom Happold was in attendance.

The 2013 Serpentine Gallery Pavilion was designed by 41-year-old Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto.

Abu Bakr’s broad appeal is in his ability to synthesize different cultural strands, conjuring a sound that speaks to a shared cultural identity. “All music is one language,” he says.
